Texas Bombers Fastpitch Takes Second Place At The USA Elite Select WFC In Viera, FL~

In a mist of all the summer excitement for fastpitch softball we had a huge accomplishment within the Bomber Nation! On June 29th the Texas Bombers 18U Gold team took the field and fought until the last out of the game against Batbusters Stith, during the USA Elite Select World Fastpitch Championship taking second place overall! Battling the Florida heat at the Space Coast Stadium did not help the already long week of competition against 48 of the best teams at the USA Elite Select WFC Tournament. The Texas Bombers 18u Gold team headed into the championship game with already 10 games under their belt, but they did not let this become a factor in the battle ahead of them. As laces were tied and the Florida heat bearing down, two of the best teams loaded with some of the top talent in the country were in a boxing match going back and forth to take the lead in the championship game. With thousand watching from either the stands or from their homes on USSSA Live the dramatic championship between the Bombers and the Batbusters could only end in similar fashion. Danieca Coffey came up to the batters box, with bases loaded, two outs and only down 1 run. With a solid hit from Danieca, followed with a clutch play from the Batbusters defense the game ended 5 to 4. “ I thought it was an incredible run from our young team to uphold the standards of trying to compete for the National Championship. We played arguably one of the best team in the country, year in and year out against Batbusters Stith and it came to literally the last at bat of the game and they made a play and thats the difference between winning a National Championship and losing it 5 to 4. But I couldn’t be more proud of the way our kids played and the way they competed on a National stage.”-Head Coach Scott Smith. The Texas Bombers Gold 18U finished 9th at the Triple Crown Colorado Fireworks Tournament this past week in Denver, Colorado. They will now be heading to Huntington Beach, California for the PGF Nationals to end their summer season with another shot to bring home a National Championship.
